What is P&I?

P&I stands for "Protection and Indemnity".

 

P&I is a type of marine insurance which seeks to cover ship owners agains civil libailities they may incur as a result of owning ships and/or operating them commercially.

 

This cover is provided most by mutual insurers known as "P&I Clubs", which have been around since 1855.
